Board change from President, Bill Colwell
It is with considerable regret that I advise that Allan Cook has resigned as Treasurer of Balgowlah Golf Club on medical advice. Allan has been directed to immediately curtail his work load and that, unfortunately, includes his role at BGC. Allan has put in a tremendous effort over the last few years and his in-put will be sorely missed.
However, ever mindful of the club’s wellbeing, Allan suggested that Michael Hargreaves be considered by the Board as a replacement as Treasurer. Michael Hargreaves is an experienced Chartered Accountant and was a key adviser to the club on financial issues as we came out of formal Administration. Michael is familiar with the club’s accounting procedures and also shepherded us through the change of Auditor where was instrumental in the selection of John Cheadle as our current Auditor.
Under our Constitution, the Board has the power to fill casual vacancies by the appointment of a club member when a current Board member resigns. With Allan’s recommendation, the Board unanimously approved the appointment of Michael Hargreaves as Treasurer and I am pleased to report that Michael has accepted that position.
Allan has indicated that he would be willing to participate at a Committee level a bit further down the track once health issues have stabilised. We wish him all the best in that endeavour.
Sand Bucket Area
Work will soon start work on cleaning up the main sand bin / sand bucket area at the start of the 1st fairway. As it is, the area is difficult to maintain and does not present well in its current state.
The intention is to concrete the triangular area between the sand bucket posts and then to install two new sand bins. This will enable us to control the sand overflow and keep the area neat and tidy.
The second existing sand bin will remain in place until the new bins have been completed and this can be complimented as necessary with one or two of the new portable sand bins that the club recently purchased.
Upgrade of Toilets
A long overdue upgrade of the outside toilets and gentlemen’s facilities in the clubhouse will soon commence.
These toilets will be cleaned and painted and the men’s toilets will also have some plumbing improvements.
We will try and manage these changes to minimise inconvenience to members and visitors.
